Diwali : Light at The End of the Tunnel

Enjoy Diwali themed family friendly activities at The Core!

Join us to celebrate Diwali: Light at the End of the Tunnel, a series of family friendly activities and workshops at The Core, Solihull in Saturday 30th October 2021 (10am - 4pm) 

 

Free Drop-in activities include:

  • Palaces & Jungles – have fun creating brightly coloured exotic creatures and flowers to decorate palaces and giant jungle trees
  • Giant Diwali Story Community Mural – We’re going big with telling the Diwali story and need your help to create beautiful scenes. For example choose from Princess Sita being tricked by the dazzling golden deer, or Prince Rama in battle with Ravana (the 10-headed demon king).
  • Rangoli Patterns – Learn about the beautiful colourful Rangoli patterns that are used to invite happiness, positivity and prosperity into your home. Make one to take home or join in the communal rangoli.
  • Light at the end of the Tunnel - Community Light Installation – Add your personal Diwali message to specially designed ‘diva light tiles’ and be part of a giant community artwork to share your story and pass on good wishes to the wider community. Everybody’s contribution is of equal value and is needed to make a brighter Diwali event!
  • Enter the Drawing Competition Submit entries before 4pm on 27th of October (two age categories 7-10 and 11-13) to be in with a chance of winning prizes to the value of £450. Winners will be announced at 3.30pm in The Courtyard Gallery and prizes awarded. Get the full competition details from Art at the Heart's website.

 

Bookable Workshops include:  

  • Shadow Puppet-making Workshop and performance 10am-12.30pm Studio – Create your own Diwali character, experimenting with projection, scale and drama!  After you’ve made your puppet you can take part in a mini performance. Tickets £5.
  • Indian Miniature Painting Workshop 1pm-2pm, Gallery – Create your own mini-masterpiece depicting a scene from the Diwali story. Be inspired by Indian Mughal art (1526 – 1858) and develop your technical ability, precision and creative use of colour. Tickets £5.
