Choice Grenfell

Remembering Joyce Grenfell... genteel comedian and monologist.

Choice Grenfell

With Airlie Scott as Joyce Grenfell and Andrew D. Brewis as William Blezard

Kick In The Head are proud to present a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the loss of the great, unremittingly genteel, comedienne and monologist, Joyce Grenfell.

Choice Grenfell is a wonderful tribute featuring some of the best of Joyce’s hilarious songs and monologues from Stately as a Galleon and School Nativity Play to A Terrible Worrier and First Flight. Joyce is our guide for a delightful delve into some of her most endearing characters, ably accompanied by her trusted pianist William Blezard.

We are delighted that the family of William Blezard have allowed us access to previously unpublished rehearsal recordings and personal letters from Joyce allowing a unique insight into the queen of comediennes.

As Joyce would have said “We request the pleasure of your company”.

CHOICE GRENFELL - A TRIBUTE TO JOYCE GRENFELL

In these somewhat uncertain times comes a wonderful evening of warmth, wit and gentle humour.

Airlie Scott as Joyce Grenfell

Andrew D. Brewis as William Blezzard

Her gifts as a writer and performer of comic monologues have never been surpassed, and by the time she retired as an entertainer in 1973 her audiences on four continents had included such admirers as King George VI, Maurice Chevalier and Igor Stravinsky, Above all, she had the unusual gift of making her audience feel that she loved them as much as they loved her.

When Victoria Wood was about six, she had an epiphany in Buxton. “It was the first time I’d seen anyone stand on their own on stage,” she recalled. “I didn’t realise that there were jobs like that before – that one could stand on stage and speak, with no props except for a nice frock and people would die laughing.” The woman was Joyce Grenfell, the great, unremittingly genteel, comedian and monologist.

A CELEBRATION OF THE GREAT, UNREMITTINGLY GENTEEL, COMEDIAN AND MONOLOGIST

JOYCE GRENFELL  a wonderful evening of warmth, wit and gentle humour "a treasure chest of delights ' starring ANDREW D. BREWIS with AIRLIE SCOTT.
