FAMILY HISTORY REFRESHER
This 7-week course will take place mostly on alternate Wednesdays (see dates below) and is most suitable for people who’ve had a break from family history and want to kick-start their research again. The course assumes that you are familiar with records such as birth, marriage and death certificates, census records and parish registers and that your research is back to at least the early 1800s. The course will include some topics from our existing Next Steps and Further Steps courses and will help you to refocus your research. It will cover the following subjects: internet research (including Ancestry & Find My Past); census substitutes; military records; reading old handwriting; breaking through brick walls; DNA and family history. The fourth session is a non-taught week where you can make progress on your own research with tutor support as needed.
