It’s the twentieth anniversary of Go And Play Up Your Own End. Some of you may well have seen it, some of you haven’t and the ones who haven’t are probably the ones who’ve been saying for ages that they want to see it!
20 years ago, the show had its world premiere at what was then the Solihull Arts Complex, now the Core Theatre. It did so well that it was taken to the Birmingham Hippodrome where it sold out for a week, and was followed by shows at the REP, the Alexandra Theatre and Birmingham Town Hall.
The cast of the original show wanted to do something special to mark the twentieth anniversary, and so when Karen Heard (who played the role of Dirty Reen in the original) suggested performing a live concert version of the show, it didn’t take much to get others on board. The concert version will be very much like the original version of the play with all the songs that audiences know and love, and will feature members of the cast from various runs of the show, including Don Maclean, Karen Heard, and David Wheeler. Solihull favourite Maggie O’Hara and West End Musical star Dave Willetts will also be joining them, playing the role of Bert.
If you loved the original show, then you’ll love the concert. If you’ve never seen it, then you’re in for a treat! Come and have an evening playing down our end!
