It’s the start of autumn term at The Core next week – and there’s a whole range of classes and courses for adults, kids and teenagers to get creative or active, meet new people and try something new!
Youth courses
Creating Comic Strips runs for six weeks starting Monday 15 September. This brand new course will teach budding artists aged 8-13 how to bring their creative ideas to life and pour their imagination onto the page! For young creative writers, Solihull Teen Writers Academy (Monday evenings from 15 September) will help young people aged 11-15 find their authentic voice, explore new writing skills and unleash their creativity.
Also new for this term is Street Dance & Hip Hop (Tuesday evenings from 16 September), giving young people aged 7-11 and 11-16 a chance to level up their moves - whether they’re learning fun choreography or freestyling! Learn to DJ (Wednesday evenings from 17 September) is another exciting new course for kids and teenagers to learn how to mix two songs, use a DJ controller and get an insight into the art of DJ’ing – sessions are available for 7-11 years and 11-16 years.
The Core Youth Theatre (Thursday evenings from 18 September) returns for another year – with two groups for 7-10 years and 11-16 years, this course is a fantastic opportunity for children and young people to develop their theatre skills and creativity in a fun and engaging environment.
Adult courses
New for this term is Life Writing (Monday afternoons from 15 September) for learners sharpening their powers of observation and shaping their unique life experiences into prose or poetry. For adults looking to explore writing as a hobby, Creative Writing (Monday evenings from 15 September) is a great opportunity to learn a range of techniques to make your writing stand out. More experienced writers can join The Write Space (Thursday evenings from 18 September) – a course for those wishing to develop their skills further and join a supportive writing community.
Always dreamed of taking the stage? The eight-week Introduction to Acting course (Thursday evenings from 18 September) will help develop your acting skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, including group exercises, drama games and improvisation. Also on Thursday evenings, Intermediate Acting – Creating Performance offers a more-focused deeper dive into playing with physicality and voice on stage.
For comedy enthusiasts, From Couch to Comedy (Tuesday evenings from 16 September) will take you through creative ways of writing and performing your own stand-up material and building your confidence on stage. At the end of the course you’ll use what you’ve learned to perform your own five-minute set to an audience of friends and family!
Finally, Textile Tuesdays is a new class where you can create your own textile artworks - with a different inspiring theme each week!
Fitness & dance classes
NEW weekly fitness and dance classes will help you get active and have fun. On Monday evenings, the new Zumba and Clubbercise classes make working out feel more like a fun night out! Also new is Aerial Hoop (Wednesday evenings), an alternative way to stay active and social with no experience necessary.
For people looking for a more traditional dance class, Ballroom Dancing (Wednesday afternoons) and Strictly Vintage Dance (every other Thursday morning) gives everyone a chance to dance, whether you are an absolute beginner or have a little previous experience. Couples and solo dancers welcome! And for parents wanting to try something new with their little ones, Happy Feet Dance (Monday mornings) is the new parent & baby/toddler dance class that helps build coordination, rhythm and confidence.
