Choose from a range of new classes and courses for all ages at The Core in Solihull, starting from September, in everything from writing and acting, to stand-up comedy and DJ-ing!
Professional journalist Wersha Bharadwa leads a range of writing courses for children and adults, and her ten-week Creative Writing course (Monday evenings from 15 September) is ideal for adults exploring writing as a hobby. On Monday afternoons from 15 September, the ten-week Life Writing course is aimed at learners wishing to write a biography/autobiography or pen diaries, letters or memoirs recording life experiences. More experienced writers can join The Write Space – a ten-week course for those wishing to develop their skills further (Thursday evenings from 18 September).
Young Solihull Writers (Wednesday evenings from 17 September) is a ten-week creative writing course for children aged 7-11 to unlock their awesome imagination in a relaxed and welcoming environment, while Solihull Teen Writers Academy (ten weeks every Monday evening from 15 September) is a fun, friendly and inclusive course for ages 11-15, where you can find your inner voice and unleash your creativity!
Learn to DJ is an exciting new six week course led by professional musician and DJ Sophielou. You’ll learn how to mix and use how to use a DJ controller, all while having fun, making friends and listening to some great music! Wednesday evenings from 17 September, with separate groups for ages 7-11, and 11-16.
Another exciting new course for artistically minded children and young people is Creating Comic Strips. This six week course runs every Monday from 15 September. Rounding out the new youth courses is Street Dance & Hip Hop (Tuesday evenings from 15 September), giving young people aged 7-11 and 11-16 a chance to level up their moves - whether they’re learning fun choreography or nailing a freestyle.
The highly successful Core Youth Theatre is a fantastic opportunity for children and young people to develop their theatre skills and creativity in a fun, and engaging environment. The group meets every Thursday evening from 18 September for 13 weeks, with separate groups for ages 7-10 and 11-16.
For adult wanting to learn about and explore acting, the eight-week Introduction to Acting for Adults course (Thursday evenings from 18 September) will develop your acting skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The course will include group exercises, drama games and improvisation, along with a range of approaches to acting techniques. Also, on Thursday evenings, the eight-week Intermediate Acting - Creating Performance Course will help further refine your acting skills.
Light 52 is a ten-week photography course at beginner level (Thursday evenings from 18 September). The course is aimed primarily at digital SLR users but also suitable for compact and film camera enthusiasts.
If you’ve ever wanted to be a stand-up comedian, the eight-week From Couch to Comedy course (Tuesday evenings from 16 September), led by comedian Rachel Sambrooks will take you through creative ways of writing and performing your own material and building your confidence on stage. The course culminates in you performing your own five-minute stand-up slot to an audience of friends and family!
