Reading Friends

The Solihull Reading Friends programme is a collaboration between Solihull Libraries, The Core Theatre Solihull and Art at the Heart CIC.

The Solihull Reading Friends programme is a collaboration between Solihull Libraries, The Core Theatre Solihull and Art at the Heart CIC. The aim of Reading Friends is to start conversations and connect people who are lonely and isolated. We are delighted to offer a varied programme of FREE events which people can participate in from the comfort of their own homes.

Unfolding Stories, with Art at the Heart CIC

This community project encourages reading, talking and sharing. We’ll explore stories or fragments of texts/words through origami creations–and while we fold and unfold, tuck and crease, we’ll be creating story sculptures–as if by magic!

Make sure you book for the best session for you, as sessions on 9th, 13th and 20th March are aimed at adults, and sessions on 13th and 16th March are aimed at families.

Limited places available.

Message in a Bottle, with Art at the Heart CIC

This community project aims to capture local lockdown experiences in a bottle. Imagine you are sending an SOS out. What would you say? You can use words/pictures or anything else that you can think of to create a message. Who knows what message might come back?

These workshops took place on 25 February and 4 March.

Storytime LIVE

Join us live online every Wednesday at 10.15am on Facebook for Storytime LIVE. Staff from Solihull Libraries will be reading stories live for your little ones. Come and say hello and we’ll give you a wave! There is no need to sign up, simply follow Solihull Libraries on Facebook here, and tune in at 10.15am on Wednesdays through to the end of March for this fun and interactive storytelling session.

Storytime with Sohan

Join Sohan Kailey as he takes you on an amazing interactive storytelling journey, from Solihull to around the world! Dive into the magic of your imagination with an interactive dance and music experience for all the family. Different themes every week!

Have I Got Local History News For You!

As part of the Reading Friends initiative, library staff will be working on a pilot project in partnership with one of the self-organised family history groups that usually meet at the library. The pilot sessions will utilise the library’s newspaper subscriptions, currently available to library members free of charge from home, to discover and share local and family history stories.
